Albert (Umberto) and Angelina (née Massarella) Verrecchia owned the Imperial Café at the east end of Burntisland High Street from the 1920s (possibly earlier) until 1946, when it was sold to the Macari family. The Verrecchia memorial in Burntisland cemetery (pictured right,

John Burnett) provides an impressive and lasting reminder of the family.
The Imperial Café is still a café, now called "Food for Thought" and owned by Bruce and Sarah Stuart. Over the years the Verrecchia family lived in second and third storey flats in the Porte Buildings (literally above the shop), and also in the house now known as Gruinard in Kinghorn Road.
Albert and Angelina Verrecchia had six children - Elina, Alfred, Iolanda, Erico, Victor and Anita. Alfred served in the Black Watch in the Second World War.
Anita (married surname Perna) now lives in Canada. She has many happy memories of Burntisland, where she was born in 1928. Her most recent visit to the town was in November 2014, when she was accompanied by her daughter Lorena. They stayed at Gruinard, Anita's old family home and the house in which she was born; it is now a guest house. She brought a collection of old photos with her, and we were delighted to be able to add a selection of them to the website (see below).
