Annual Heritage Exhibition and Guided Historic Walks in 2012

EXHIBITION

The subject for the Trust's 2012 exhibition features the work of Andrew Young (1854-1925). Andrew Young was a local artist who lived and worked in Burntisland. He was also a local historian and a professional photographer in the relatively early days of commercial photography. The exhibition will feature up to 50 examples of his art and photographic work. Given the success of last year’s Changing Landscapes exhibition the ‘Now and Then’ theme using Andrew Young’s artwork and photography will also be an integral part of the 2012 exhibition.

It will run from Saturday 23rd June to Saturday 1st September, as well as Sunday 16th September (date to be confirmed) as part of the Doors Open Day scheme.

The exhibition is housed at Burntisland Heritage Centre, 4 Kirkgate, Burntisland (just round the corner from the main door of the Burgh Chambers in the High Street). It will be open on Wednesday afternoons from 1.00 to 4.00pm and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11.00am to 4.00pm. Also available for viewing and browsing are videos and large collections of other types of historical material relating to the town's fascinating history. Admission is free.

For more information on the Exhibition, please contact the Convener of Burntisland Heritage Trust, Ian Archibald (telephone 01592 872121 or ).

Background to Burntisland Heritage Trust

In 1993, Burntisland Community Council established the Burntisland Heritage Group. In 1998, the Community Council decided to formalise the structure of the group, and Burntisland Heritage Trust was established. The Trust’s activities are governed by a Deed of Trust, which was registered in 1998. The Trust is a registered charity (Scottish Charity reference SC 028539).

The Trustees form the principal governing body of the Trust. There are ten Trustees. They are Ian Archibald, John Burnett, David Caldwell, Aneris Grant, Alexander Kilgour, Helen Mabon, Alexander MacDonald, David Plant, Iain Sommerville and James Wilson. All are volunteers. Correspondence for the Trust should be addressed to The Secretary, Burntisland Heritage Trust, 4 Kirkgate, Burntisland, Fife, KY3 9DB.

The Friends of Burntisland Heritage Trust are a support group formed in 1999. In addition to assisting with the summer exhibitions, notably staffing, they raise funds, which go directly to the work of the Trust. A major fundraising project was the publication of a celebrity recipe book in 2000.

In the photo below, the Trust's volunteers gather in the Burgh Chambers in July 2005 to celebrate the launch of the book 'Burntisland Voices' and also the 90th birthday of Trustee Jimmy Wilson (fifth from left).
